Five healthcare centers from HNŽ received new emergency medical vehicles
12.03.2024

Today, the Prime Minister of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Marija Buhač, along with the Minister of Health, Labor, and Social Welfare of the HNŽ, Dr. Milenko Bevanda, handed over the keys to five new emergency medical vehicles to the directors of five health centers in the HNŽ. The total value of the vehicles amounts to 731,000.00 KM.

- Today's ceremony of delivering new emergency medical vehicles to health centers in Mostar, Čapljina, Čitluk, Konjic, and Stolac is yet another indicator of how attentive the cantonal government is to the needs of our healthcare system. Since taking office, we have placed healthcare at the top of our priorities and have demonstrated with concrete examples our readiness to improve the overall healthcare system. We are aware of the extremely demanding work performed by both medical and non-medical staff, and therefore they deserve our respect. It is worth reminding that one of our first actions as the Government was to sign a Collective Agreement, in collaboration with our social partners, which improved the working and living conditions of healthcare workers, thereby ending a one-month strike that primarily affected patients. We continuously support all projects within the healthcare system, and the Government has secured a loan of 45 million KM for projects such as the construction of the Children's Clinic at the University Clinical Hospital Mostar and the renovation, expansion, and equipping of the remaining two hospitals in the Canton - said President Buhač, emphasizing that today's handover of modern vehicles for rapid medical intervention is just a continuation of regular activities and a preview of vehicle procurement for other health centers throughout the current year.

Speaking about healthcare financing in the HNŽ, Minister Bevanda emphasized that the HNŽ Budget for 2024 allocates 12 million KM, of which 8 million is for hospitals and 4 million for health centers.

- This donation today is another piece in the puzzle of our efforts to ensure that primary healthcare occupies the place it truly deserves in the overall healthcare system. Our ultimate goal is better quality healthcare, which means achieving what is most important to us - a satisfied patient receiving the best possible care - added Dr. Bevanda, emphasizing that the Government of the HNŽ will continue with this project.

- An emergency medical vehicle is crucial for emergency medicine and is an indispensable tool. We want to provide the citizens of our canton with better access and faster emergency medical services, which is a crucial factor in the work of health centers - concluded the Minister, calling on all those in leading roles in their institutions to be true managers with a vision in their actions.

In addition to the directors of the five health centers, the mayors of Čapljina, Čitluk, Konjic, and Stolac, as well as the representative of the Mayor of Mostar, were also present at the ceremony of handing over the keys to the emergency medical vehicles. In his statement to the media, Dr. Kazimir Raguž, the Director of the Stolac Health Center, thanked the HNŽ Government for this donation and for its overall approach to the healthcare system, with a focus on primary healthcare.
