Temperature are rising in the hottest city in Bosnia and its surroundings
17.07.2024

In Mostar, the temperatures varied significantly across different locations yesterday. At Bijeli Brijeg meteorological station, the temperature reached 41 degrees Celsius for the sixth consecutive day, which is considered quite extreme but more tolerable compared to the 43.5 degrees Celsius measured inside a vehicle roaming the streets. Meanwhile, Zrinjevac park registered 39 degrees Celsius in the shade of a lime tree, highlighting the local variation in temperature readings.

The extreme heatwave isn't localized to Mostar alone but extends throughout Herzegovina, particularly along the Neretva River. Meteorologists predict that these high temperatures will persist until July 23rd, maintaining the red weather alert status. Authorities advise precautions against the heat, emphasizing the risk of infrastructure disruptions and urging people to assist vulnerable individuals.

The forecast suggests no significant relief until after July 23rd, with temperatures likely to remain above 40 degrees Celsius, potentially breaking records set in 2007 for prolonged high temperatures. Even coastal areas offer little respite, with sea temperatures above 27 degrees Celsius, leaving rivers as the only partial escape from the heat.

In summary, the region is experiencing an intense and prolonged heatwave prompting severe weather warnings and urging precautionary measures from both authorities and citizens alike.
