Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Mario Jurica, together with his team, visited the Municipal Council of Čitluk and the City Council of Čapljina today. He discussed planned activities, ongoing projects, and possibilities for expanding cooperation between the Ministry and the municipalities with Čitluk Mayor Marin Radišić and Municipal Secretary Marijo Rozić.
"The main reason for this visit is to acquaint the municipality leaders with the program for the use of water fees and the program for the use of land reclamation funds, namely, how we plan to allocate these funds. We want to hear suggestions and thoughts, respecting the fact that local leadership is in daily contact with agricultural producers. Aware of the fact that the Municipality of Čitluk faces the greatest challenges with irrigation of agricultural land, we emphasized this issue, labeling it as a priority," said Minister Jurica, expressing gratitude for the openness to cooperation and exchange of views in the development of the mentioned Ministry programs.
In the same vein, especially regarding the possibilities for improving the situation in the water and agriculture sectors, the minister also met today with Čapljina Mayor Smiljan Vidić, who emphasized that Čapljina is primarily an agricultural area and that a large part of its residents are engaged in agriculture.
"This is why the significant support provided by the cantonal Ministry of Agriculture for this purpose is extremely important to us," Vidić said, mentioning the exceptional work of around 1800 family farms (OPGs) in Čapljina. Minister Jurica announced that the support for agricultural producers throughout the canton would be significant, adding that the goal of these visits is to clearly identify the actual needs of local government units.
"Before adopting our programs, we want to introduce cities and municipalities to projects, our future work methods, and plans for addressing current issues. The Land Reclamation Program will include measures such as land use change, irrigation, and fertilization. We aim to assist agricultural producers in their work, the final product, and product placement through e-marketplaces. The same goes for the Water Fee Program. It is important to collectively approach the finalization of the programs, support each other, and, of course, legally frame everything we plan," emphasized the minister in charge.
