Snježana Zovko: Mostar Symphony Orchestra Celebrates 70 Years
25.06.2024

Mostar, June 24, 2024 - The Mostar Symphony Orchestra is preparing two spectacular events in June in Mostar. The concerts were announced by the Director of the Mostar Symphony Orchestra, Snježana Zovko, on the program Obični radio.

"Currently, there are only six of us permanently employed in the Mostar Symphony Orchestra. Despite this fact, we have gained numerous friends in Bosnia and throughout the region, both among top musicians and conductors. Consequently, concerts have naturally followed, and for many years now, we have had a well-organized concert season with at least 10 major concerts per year," emphasized Snježana Zovko.

Snježana Zovko plays the violin. She has been with the orchestra since 1983 when she was accepted as a freelance collaborator, and from 1985, she passed the audition and has been with the Mostar Symphony Orchestra ever since.

An ethno-rock-symphony concert celebrating World Music Day will be organized by the ethno-group "Čuvarice" from Rama and the Mostar Symphony Orchestra at Park Zrinjevac in Mostar. The concert will take place on Thursday, June 20, 2024, starting at 9:00 PM. It will promote the Croatian cultural heritage of the Rama region. Some of the song titles include: "Zemljo moja," "Ruža za drugoga," "Cure Hercegovke," "Sazrilo je grožđe," "Proljetna tuga," "Moj Ivane," "Misečino," "Lipa kao vila,"...

"Last year, at the Days of Cultural Heritage event, we had the opportunity to meet the ethno-group Čuvarice. Upon hearing the girls sing and experiencing the aura of their performance, an opportunity arose for a joint concert. This is the sixth concert we organize for World Music Day. This concert merges Croatian tradition and cultural heritage with the contemporary sound of the Symphony Orchestra, enhanced by members of the accompanying band. We will also have the honor of hosting Josip Joca Vukoja once again, who is an arranger and participant in the albums released by Čuvarice. This concert features a compilation of selected songs from these three albums. All compositions are by Biljana and David Glibo, and the arrangements for the symphony orchestra are by Damir Bunoza, who will also conduct the concert. In total, there will be 45 of us on stage, so dear passers-by, stop by Park Zrinjevac next Thursday and sing along with us," said Snježana Zovko about the collaboration with the ethno-group Čuvarice.

"We live in an age of packaging culture that disregards content. No one can impose what is wrong or right music. As the Mostar Symphony Orchestra, we must cherish the tradition of listening to good music, especially opening doors for young people to see how beneficial it is to engage with classics. Sometimes, we organize concerts that diverge slightly from classical repertoire. This is only to attract the audience's attention and engage them," Snježana Zovko emphasized.

The concert "TRIBUTE TO GIPSY KINGS" by the Mostar Symphony Orchestra will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Kantarevac Stadium. This is another in a series of concerts through which the Mostar Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 70 years of existence and activity in Mostar.

"This is another in a series of concerts through which we commemorate our 70 years of existence and activity in Mostar. The concert will feature around 40 musicians from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia. The soloists are: Antonija Batinić, Karla Jovanović, Nenad Tomičić, Oliver Bevanda, and Ivica Zovko. All of them have been long-time collaborators with the orchestra. This will be a memorable concert, as our city Mostar is a meeting point for various cultures and customs, much like the music performed by the Gipsy Kings. The concert begins at 9:00 PM, and maestro Ivan Hut, the chief conductor of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, will conduct," said Snježana Zovko.

Tickets for this concert can be purchased through Entrio's distribution and at all their sales points in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
