22.12.2023

The Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Croatian Cultural Society Napredak signed a Cooperation Agreement in Mostar on Wednesday, establishing deeper collaboration in the fields of culture, science, and arts between the two organizations.

Academician Mladen Bevanda, the President of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Bosnia and Herzegovina, spoke about the history and significance of Napredak for all Croats in Bosnia and beyond, emphasizing that the golden age of Napredak was from 1907 to 1914.

"By signing an agreement with Napredak, we want to continue working on promoting culture, science, arts, and overall cooperation in Bosnia and Herzegovina among Croats, as well as with other societies in the country, such as Prosvjeta, Preporod, etc.," said Academician Bevanda, reminding that all these societies were founded in the early 20th century and that there were never any issues in their collaboration.

Dr. Nikola Čiča, the President of the Croatian Cultural Society Napredak, also expressed satisfaction with the signed agreement, announcing that the two organizations would try to implement as many joint projects as possible in the coming period, primarily for Croats in Bosnia and for anyone else interested.

He stated that collaboration between the two organizations has always been good.

"I hope this will lead to congresses, symposiums that will significantly contribute to shedding light on certain aspects of social-cultural and all other aspects of the lives of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina," he added.

Academician Mladen Bevanda, the President of HAZU in Bosnia and Herzegovina, also spoke about the Annual Assembly of HAZU, held today, reminding that the Assembly verifies the Academy's work program at the beginning of the year, and at the end of the year, the Presidency, the executive body of HAZU, reports to the Assembly on what it has done during the year.

He also recalled the numerous events organized or participated in by HAZU, such as the scientific-expert symposium titled "Education and Culture, Science - a Bridge among People and Nations," where academics from four academies in our country, namely three national academies and the ANU of Bosnia and Herzegovina, participated. He also mentioned the International Scientific Symposium on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the first public school in Tolisa.

It is worth noting that on the Day of HAZU in Bosnia and Herzegovina, they awarded the title of honorary academician to the poet Luka Paljetak.
