As part of the event "Days of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in BiH," an exhibition of current and former professors was opened to mark the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Gabrijel Jurkić High School of Fine Arts in Mostar.
Boris Jovanović, principal of the Gabrijel Jurkić High School of Fine Arts in Mostar, revealed that the exhibition features 25 exhibitors.
"Of these 25, 24 are current or former teachers of the school, and we have the privilege and pleasure to include three works by Gabrijel Jurkić himself—the first academically trained visual artist from BiH—after whom our school has proudly been named for 30 years," said Jovanović.
The exhibition showcases around seventy works.
Initially planned to last ten days, the exhibition will be extended through the Mostar Summer Festival, Jovanović added.
Mladen Bevanda, president of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) in BiH, reminded that this institution’s title also refers to the arts.
"We strive to develop all scientific disciplines, but also all disciplines in the arts. Last year, we held an exhibition of artworks by professors and students of the Academy of Fine Arts from Široki Brijeg, and this year we chose an exhibition from the Gabrijel Jurkić High School of Fine Arts in Mostar. They are celebrating 30 years of existence this year, which is a significant cultural event for this city and the entire community, as it is the only school of its kind in BiH, serving the Croatian people," emphasized academician Bevanda.
He added that the anniversary program is going well and that the Academy is extremely satisfied with the turnout.
"We established these days last year, which were also very content-rich and received high praise from many sides. Afterwards, the Presidency of HAZU in BiH decided to hold the event annually. This week, we have a lecture marking 150 years since the Herzegovina Uprising and the presentation of a collection of works, while on Monday we will hold a ceremonial session," said Bevanda.
